Schools Art Competition

Following the successful art competitions we held in 2023, 2024, 2025 we are going
to hold another in 2027.

This project is part of our outreach as a church who is committed to doing all we can to highlight the dangers of the climate crisis and promote awareness of sustainable solutions. We know many children and young people are already very concerned about environmental issues and we want to offer an opportunity for them to use creativity to express their views, concerns and hopes.

The theme of the competition is “A Greener, Fairer Future – My Vision”

As in previous years artwork will be collected from schools and there will be an awards day when the artwork will be displayed at the church and presentations made. We shall again be inviting the Lord Mayor to hand out the awards. Many children and their carers enjoyed the experience of having their work recognised in this public setting.

The closing date for entries will be 10th February and the awards day will be Saturday 6th March.

The Environment – Some Good News Stories!

We’re excited to be hosting a presentation on Good News Stories about the environment by experienced ecologist and local environmentalist Peter Loy-Hancocks, followed by questions and discussion.

Thursday 22 October 2026, 7.30pm

The evening will also include a short update on activities on Victoria Methodist Church’s Eco Church journey and our ambitious plans to improve the sustainability of the building.

Lent Knitalong 2026

We are delighted to be hosting another mystery Lent Knitalong this year!

Knitters all over the world are warmly invited to join us as we knit a large, drapey shoulder wrap (this can be partially sewn up at the end to create a poncho, or left open as a wrap) using daily knitting pattern instructions which are accompanied by specially written reflections.

Full details, including yarn/needle requirements, release dates and a pattern for a practice swatch) are outlined in our Welcome letter (which is also available in Large Print). It also includes information about kits which are available for UK knitters from No Frills Knitting.

The pattern and reflection will be released one week at a time, starting on Friday 13 February, ready for the Knitalong to start on Ash Wednesday 18 February. To receive the weekly emails with the pattern you are invited to sign up to our mailing list on the knitalongs page and/or join the dedicated Facebook group community (Victoria Methodist Bristol Knitalongs). The documents will also be available from this webpage.
